Gruss, You're kidding right? The old man had no right or reason to strike the child... I think this is a case of some old curmudgeon who was pissed off at the world and only had enough stones to take it out on a little girl
I know when I was little if I was being a PITA my folks would take me out of the situation, but if a stranger slapped me my father would've decked him. I'll follow the same suit, if my daughter goes into a uncontrollable tantrum I'll take her out of the situation.. If someone slapped her, they'd better have their dental records and fingerprints on file, because that's what it'll take to identify the body. I hope he gets the maximum, not only for felony child cruelty, but add assault and battery to it and simple assault on the mother for threatening her.... That's disturbing the peace in my opinion. So I say charge the mother too. If I walked into a WalMart with a boom box crankin some tunage I'd get asked to leave but if a mother trapses around her little noise-hole people get a pass. F that. If the little kid is misbehaving then deal with it - get the kid to shut up or leave. In other words, be polite. You're in public. I've helped a lady with her groceries once because her kid was throwing a fit and she was trying to handle him and get out. I fully support that. So anyway, charge the mother with distrubing the peace and anything else you can think of.
