Something to consider. Before it was shut down by Newt Gringrich in
the 90's the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment looked at
the impact of the space program on the US Economy. From what I
remember, every dollar spent on space exploration brought back into to
the economy something like $15 or $20. Moreover they estimated that
because of the space program the US was about 40 years in advance to
where it would have been without NASA. So I'd say we got our money's
worth out of the program.
