ok maybe I am not understanding your point. You think that helping someone to comply with the tax laws is facilitating a crime if their income comes from something illegal? So it would be a crime to do Bill Gates' taxes, for example? If so I suppose we are where we have been before -- I find your position logically sound, but think it is wrong.
For one thing, I spent a fair amount of time digging around on the IRS site when this all went down originally, and the IRS's concerns about income from illegal sources all center on tax evasion. I also seem to recall finding a code of ethics for tax preparers that requires confidentiality and acting in the client's best interest. And what about the people who can't/won't do their own taxes? I noticed in previous discussions on this list that I am pretty much the only one that does my own taxes. Your position means that anyone with illegal income automatically commits a crime obtaining the income and another one when they don't pay taxes on it. The IRS wants everyone to pay taxes. They are famous for that.
