Well, I'd say that to the extent that a disease is caused by known
activities, the individual does have to take some responsibility for
it.  All of the causes of Diabetes are not really that well understood
so it doesn't really apply in that case.  There is certainly a very
large part of Diabetes that really has nothing at all to do with
personal choice.  I would, however, say that if someone with Diabetes
were to eat an inappropriate diet and violate doctor's advice, they
really have no-one to blame but themselves when something bad happens.

Having said that - I do sincerely hope anyone on this list with
Diabetes is eating right and taking good care of themselves.

Smokers getting lung cancer on the other hand, maybe leans a little
more towards the personal accountability side.  Even then I agree
there is still alot of grey in these areas.

It's really just a way an individual chooses to live their life -
blaming everyone else for everything in their life, or accepting
responsibility for their own actions.  This whole thread began with
someone (the pilot) who was clearly blaming everyone else for his
problems, and was unwilling to accept responsibility for anything.
