I've watched and re-watched and re-re-watched the video. Every time they ask
permission to engage they lie about the weapons count. They are
misrepresenting the situation to get permission from their commander to
engage. The same thing when the van pulls up. They lie to get permission to
engage. You can muddle the situation with as much "they are doing what we
are paying them to do" comments as you want. We aren't paying soldiers to
kill indiscriminately. Look at the body language of the "targets." The guy
with the AK has it shouldered and pointing at the ground. They are
strolling, the way one would when they aren't expecting to get blown to bits
for not doing anything. It's clear to see they aren't acting suspicious.
They aren't seeking cover. And doing the van after is the part that proves
this is no case of mistaken identity. And of course the 2 1/2 to 3 years of
the military lying and covering it up certainly doesn't help the case of "it
was an honest mistake."
