How fast were they going?  I wouldn't be as concerned about a rear
ending as I would being t-boned or hit head on, or clipped.  In most
rear ending people realize they are going to hit you and try to slow
down.

I've been in a few rear endings (one of them was while I was driving a
Geo)
and survived all of them. The car that came out the best was the Geo - a
very small car.
