There were some in the Washington Post classifieds this weekend. One was
priced at $32k. Hah! People are silly. : )

I've read that here in Baltimore there is an eight-month waiting list for a
regular Mini and even longer for the more desirable Mini S. But so far the
two dealers we have are holding the price to full list, no surcharges.
Particularly with the Mini S, when you start looking around at other cars
you can get for the same price, you have to decide you REALLY want that
Mini.

I read in one of the major car magazines (Autoweek?) that the Mini is the
first car that was designed specifically with gays in mind, for whatever
that is worth. I think they meant not that it was targeted at gays, but that
they expect gays to be a large part of their market for this car, so they
fashioned the interior accordingly.

Discounting that last piece of speculation, I figure there will be three
major buying groups. You'll have the group that just has to have the latest
cute thing, the same ones that jumped on the New Beetle and the PT Cruiser.
Then you'll have the group that had a Mini or a derivative 30 - 40 years ago
and have been waiting for the chance to have another. Then you'll have the
driving enthusiasts who are salivating over the high power to weight ratio
and the very low center of gravity. I expect you will see a lot of
customization with this car - fat wheels and tires, trick body pieces, fog
lamps, etc. I'm waiting to see my first one that has a British flag painted
across the top.
