Did you say you do want GIS capabilities? -----Original Message----- From: Ian Skinner [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, June 01, 2010 4:12 PM To: cf-community Subject: Making up maps.
I've long enjoyed doodling my own maps. Sometimes of real world geology, but often geology that only exists in my head. I've casually explored tools to take my pen and ink hobby into the digital age. But I have yet to find anything that does what *I* want. I can find lots of professional mapping tools, but these are way over kill for what I want. As well as being geared for working with existing GIS data. I also find 'fantasy' map products. But all these, I've found so far, lean toward creating icon based maps: pictures for towns and mountains and forests, etc. I like creating contour line based maps. I've tried using various, general purpose drawing programs. But find drawing each and every contour line by hand to be very tedious and hard to edit if I decide I want to lower or raise the elevation of some section of the map. So is there anybody out there in cf-community land, who has not been driven off by the recent political only nature of this forum, who might know of some such tool that would allow me to make contour based maps of the imaginary worlds in my head? I kind of like the idea of the Terragen tools. But I have not figured out how to easily create or edit the gray scale contour maps the tool utilizes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology-Michael-Dinowitz/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:319917 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
