The same reason Beckham did. To be a very big fish in a very small pond. I'd respectfully disagree with what Judah says. Herny is in his twilight years as a footballer. Sure he's still got a lot to offer, but he can no longer offer 'top player in the world' type performances. However he can come to MLS and be the best player in the league. If he can crack the US sponsorship market he'll be almost as rich as Becks. For a footballer at 32 to be able to reinvent his career, remain a top player for years to come and be part of establishing football in a [respectively] new market is very appealing.
