"Law, not heritage, governs. Tear down the laws and replace them based on
sentimental maudlin crap based on "heritage" and watch how fast
this nation falls. Slavery is a large part of the heritage, and most of the
founding fathers were slave holders. Wanna run the country based on that?"

What in the hell are you talking about? Did I say heritage governs or say
it should? Uh, no. I just said religion was important from a heritage
point of view. You know, like what kind of person was George Washington?
Christian, pagan, diest? I even said it shouldn't influence how the
government is ran.

"In what way?"

I'll give you the classic one: The Department of education.

"Yeah, a brief review of English history will clearly show why they put
that provision in."

No doubt.

"State laws are meaningless when discussing the establishment of the"

In most ways, unless the establishment will violate state rights. That why
so many states have taken the Obama administration to court. They say that
health care deform is a violation of state rights.

But, in this case, you are right.

But, you can get an idea of what kind of people where at the constitutional
convention. If representatives were required to be Christians by the state,
then . . . connect the dots.

I think a lot of confusion/venom on this issue stems from term Christian
Nation. Some people think it means theocracy. Others think of it as a
clever catch phrase that can strengthen one political party at the expense
of another. Some might think it means a nation of Christians. Or, another
might think it means a country founded on the morals of Christianity.

It's hard to have a discussion when so many different views of the same term
are in play.
