"You didn't. But others have. Some current "Christian" organizations think
that the US will fail unless it becomes a theocracy and they base their
claims on the idea that the Founders made this a Christian nation. Some of
them even thing that non-believers should be executed. So perhaps you can
see why an insistence on the rule of law regarding this is of concern to
me."

Any theocracy would be bad. Christian, Muslim, or whatever.

"Frankly, I don't care what kind of man George Washington was any more than
I care what kind of man George Bush is. Their opinions have no place in the
decisions that form the law as they are 'former' Presidents - past tense in
all ways that matter."

Many people don't care about history. Maybe that's why the issue of Beck
and his version of history are such a big deal now. Others like to know
about people. It helps to know why certain decisions were made. For
example, how could a "Christian Nation" justify slavery? In order to answer
that question, one would need look at what the founders believed in. Which
founding fathers actively opposed slavery? Which opposed it covertly? Who
fought the hardest for it? And so on?

Then, there is this quote:
He who controls the past controls the future which is pretty self
explanatory.

No man's life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in
session. - Mark Twain

The artificial aristocracy is a mischievous ingredient in government, and
provisions should be made to prevent its ascendancy. - Thomas Jefferson
