It would be nice, but I think people will always group together based on
ideologies.  You are right about spending too much time on party business.
I would disagree in saying the nation's business though.  I would say
constituents business, but that is quibbling.

The first start, do away with straight ticket voting and listing party on
the ballot.  No more riding coat tails.

Here in NC, we have an idiot governor.  She's terrible.  She's so bad that
the majority of newspapers in the state endorsed the Republican candidate.
That's not something you see everyday.  She rode Obama's coat tails into
office.

Then no more voting by looking for a "D" or "R" beside the name.

I follow a simple rule.  If I don't know anything about the candidates, I
don't vote in that race.  I skip it and go to the next.
