There are really only two things to do at Epcot.. eat or shop within the different culture areas. When I went in 2003, there was about three rides. When I was done, I felt like I paid admission to an overpriced mall. Why would I have to pay $50+ for that privilege.
At Disneyland, you have plenty of rides and attractions to keep you busy. Yes, you still have to pay for food and shopping, But, that is not the primary reason why you go to Disneyland. Disney has lots of other places to eat and shop (including most of their resorts, Downtown Disney, etc.). If you want to go into the park, expect to pay for a ticket.
