Not really....my dad was furloughed on two separate occasions many years
ago, but was brought back both times just as promised.

I think it would be more correct to say that: A majority of VOTING Americans
agreed with the general idea that over the next few years, we needed to
reign in spending, and thus voted in people who promised to do such.

I doubt you'll find very many Americans who support shutting down our
government at this juncture just to try and make a point. As usual, a party
gets voted in, think they have a mandate, and fuck it up.
