I said both. There were WMD's and there was the capability and desire to create more in two weeks time. The reason for the war was the threat against Americans and that threat was real. Just because the # of stockpiles was off doesn't mean the threat assessment was. > A government loses credibility from the minute they mobilise a war for one > reason, and that reason turns out to be completely false. The reason was to protect American lives. The message that sold newspapers was WMD's and they were real, just the amounts were off. Saddam wanted the world to think he had massive stockpiles and had every intention of creating and using them the second he had the chance. In the end the threat was the same just the dates were off by two weeks. > So stick with that fact, and all the rest is just supposition and extraneous > nonsense. Tens of thousands of servicemen? Are you now calling the al Qaeda terrorists that died in Iraq servicemen? Trillions of dollars in debt have nothing to do with the wars, the wars were paid for in the defense budget. The trillions in debt is because our SS piggy bank is empty and then there's the O spending spree. > The ONLY reason to have gone to war at that point was that Saddam HAD > biological, chemical and/or nuclear missiles and he was preparing to use > them. The reason we went to war was because Saddam was a threat to American lives, one of the threats was the weapons he had and hid. We found them and it ends up Saddam was good at storing them. We also found that he was ready and anxious to end the sanctions so he could start making more. So if the threat was BW and we now know he had every intention of making them isn't that requirement satisfied? > And the US Government knew that, and that's why they spun the story about > WMDs. My problem is your stuck-on-stupid and can't get past the stockpiles. There's really no point discussing this with you. > Here is General Clark discussing the decision to invade Iraq, and the > countries that were supposed to follow. > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45fhxLLdCLM&feature=related Half the countries he listed are in Africa and then he said we won't intervene in Africa because there's no oil.
