"Oh, and if the state is running in the RED, and as such can't fund education for their citizens like they would like, they need to cut some other shit and get education in there. Because I guarantee that it's more important than stuff they are currently funding."
I'm cool with that. The problem is that politicians don't want to cut anything. "Of course not, there are NO guarantees. But education gives you a much better shot at leading a good life." In general. I agree that everyone should extend their education. If a person wants to major in philosophy, go for it. Just pick up a second major in accounting as well. Then, don't demand that someone else pay for. "Dunno if that's true or not, but I work with several people at my current company who are graduates of tech schools, and they are PHENOMENAL workers. I've only known a few ivy leaguers, and they were good workers too." No doubt that there are good workers coming from everywhere. If I remember correctly, the trend of the devaluation of production from Ivy League graduates is a recent phenomenon. "Probably depends more on the person. I've said it many times before, a person who works hard can get a good education at a bad school, and a lazy ass can get a shitty education at a good school." Amen. You are preaching to the choir. Well....that does pose an interesting point. I mean, if they are helping pay for something, then perhaps they SHOULD have some say in it." If they start paying for tuition via some kind of loan service, they will. "I don't like the idea of the state getting into this business....for lots of reasons, but mostly because i'm just not convinced that education dollars are 'wasted' on so called weak majors, or majors that don't offer much in the way of jobs." I don't have a problem with the liberal arts majors if a person wants to double major with another field that is more marketable. I don't like government involvement in education either. However it's growing. Didn't the Federal Government recently take over all loans? "Also, i might argue that if such majors really are pointless, then really the university should be the one to do away with them." Because college has become a money making scam. Get a degree. Fail to get a job. Go back for more classes or to graduate school. Pay more money. Rinse and repeat. J - As long as human beings are imperfect, there will always be arguments for extending the power of government to deal with these imperfections. The only logical stopping place is totalitarianism -- unless we realize that tolerating imperfections is the price of freedom. - Thomas Sowell ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:347824 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
