The police in Portland kill, on average, probably one person (at least) every year that they should not have because a cop with a gun got spooked. That's with training, media attention, backup and access to non-lethal weapons. Maybe your average dude with a gun on the street would do better in pressure situations (I don't have the highest opinion of our police) but it seems a bit far fetched. But, like I said, I don't have any solid data on the subject, so it is a lot of reasoning and conjecture. My instincts tell me that more guns in the hands of more people is going to equal more shooting. That's what guns do. I could be convinced otherwise, though.
