It's too late in the year to buy a Galaxy S3 now in my view. I think they are going to come out with a new one by March next year. I don't know what plans are like , whether you would be allowed to upgrade.
Basically, the S3 is an awesome phone and I think it matches the iPhone in performance and features. If you are tied to the apple ecosystem, however, the iPhone 5 is excellent. Neither phone is much better than the other in my view, the way the iPhone was head and shoulders above the rest a year or two ago.
