I had a similar situation when I had my D50.  Mounted it on my tripod and
then put the tripod over my shoulder...and instantly felt it get
lighter....and then I heard the camera hit the pavement.

only good thing that came out of it was the upgrade to the D80.  I love my
DSLR still.  There are photos you just can't capture with smaller cameras.
 I think I've got the best of both worlds with these two though.
