I did some calculations recently and was able to compare my costs
under the Canadian medical system and what it cost me covering myself
with an Individual Health Insurance Plan here in the US. The only
health insurance plan I could get with my Type 1 diabetes, cost
900/month, plus I had to cover most of the cost of my medication and
supplies. It worked out to be over $25,000 a year.

In contrast, it would cost me about $400/year (100% tax deductable) in
Canada. That $400 is the copay.
