The fault is the guy with the gun who goes and stalks the unarmed teenager because he knows he has a gun and therefore thinks he is a badass.
If someone stalks me in a car across a neighborhood (which he wouldn't because I'm white and 40) and gets out to confront me, fuck yeah I'm going to confront him back. Put yourself in Zimmerman's shoes for a moment...are you going to do what he did if he wasn't armed? He had already relayed his suspicions to the police. He monitored from afar. Then he went in to confront. He went from watching to engaging and that's the difference. Martin doesn't go after the dude in the car...he's headed home. Zimmerman is the instigating factor in every single step of this drama. Legally, Zimmerman was in the right. Florida law is written that way. That does not make it morally right. Zimmerman pushed every single step of the encounter because he thought himself a hero with a gun. In the end, he's a murderer. Acquitted, correctly according to state law, but still someone who stalked an innocent young man, provoked an encounter, and then took his life.
