That is just showing the steps, nothing complicated at all. You have 427 and you want to take away 316. The way to do it quickly and easily in your head:
316 is three 100s, so take away three 100s. 427,327,227. And it is one 10. Now we've got 217. And now we are taking away six 1s. 216,215,214,213,212,211. Your answer.
