Showing your work is not drawing 96 1's. That's not math, it's stupid. As
for how it's done:

Old way
5+3 = 9
11111+111=9
WRONG

New way
5+3=9
11111+111=9
BCR: There were no coins on the table, I took five pennies out of my pocket
and put them on the table. Then I borrowed 3 nickels from Sally and put
them on the table. I counted all the coins on the table and there were
nine.
That answer is correct.

Why would you have to waste time in a math class doing English when you
could actually use the time to learn math? And I repeat, they are not
learning how to calculate on the fly. It's like pretending to have 100
fingers. You will always need a scratch sheet or a calculator, lucky for
our youths, most phones have calculators now.
