Exactly - the US doesn't agree with how Iraq uses their oil, so we're going to go in and make sure somebody we DO agree with takes control of it (which means another cheap source of oil for us). We helped the Taliban gain their foothold in Afganistan when we were fighting the russians off from our 'interests in the middle east'.
