Take up sign language. I'm practicing (got a book from a local college that has a ASL
class) on my own, and I'm horrible, but it's fun.

Pick up an instrument.

LEGO Mindstorms. Very cool... I got one for my nephew last year, and when I realized
he was too young for it, I bought one for myself so I can help him build stuff (yeah,
thats it, I bought it, and a few of the add-on kits for myself, for _his_ benefit).

Learn a foreign language. My primary client has incorporated the Rosetta Stone
Language Learning program into their site, and I've been mucking around with it
lately. It doesnt get you away from the computer, but it's a pretty fun interface,
and a few languages on your resume always looks good. There's always the benefit of
walking into a (French, Japanese, Portuguese, whatever) restaurant and talking to the
waiter in his language. A little more graceful than pointing to the menu when you
dont know how to pronounce something...

Get a bicycle, and ride it. It's addictive. Get a mountain bike and head to the
woods. The IMBA has groups everywhere.

Look around for local low-budget regional theater companies and see if anyone needs
help with the stage crew. They usually dont ask for a long commitment, since they
only do a limited number of performances. Volunteer, since they cant afford to pay
themselves as it is. I've found it to be quite interesting to socialize with theater
people. My better half is/was a off-broadway actress, and when we are with her
friends, I find myself hearing conversations and perspectives that I've never heard at
a CFUG meeting. No offence, anyone, I'm an attendee, and glad to be, but it's nice to
get away from tech-talk once in a while.

Get a remote control plane. Funfunfunfunfunfunfun. Can get expensive, but doesnt
need to be. A decent package, gas or electric, can be had for less than $300.

Build a remote control car, and give it to a younger relative for Christmas.
