Tim, In regards to your list of reasons.
1. Minivan fits more 2. Minivan fits more 3. Minivan's have better safety ratings 4. Minivan fits more 5. Minivan's have better safety ratings and to add to the list 6. Minivans typically have better fuel econonmy. So why weren't there any minivan's on your list :) Seriously though. I am amazed at how well the auto industry has ingrained into our thinking that SUV's are safer and more roomier than other vehicles. We recently traded in our 1996 Suburban in and a 2001 Town and Country. We still cannot believe how much more usable space there is in the minivan. Also, Suburban 14/18mpg, Minivan 18/25mpg. I also don't think that it's all the public creating the demand for these SUV's. I think that since the SUV's tend to have high profit margins, most of the advertising goes to those models. Maybe soon, we'll be able to sue the auto manufacturers for addicting us to SUV's :) I never want the government to tell me what vehicle I can buy. I also don't think the government should give subsidies to certain vehicle types. I also wish they would quit monkeying around with the tax code that we currently have and just start from scratch and do away with all these little loopholes.
