Considering the bloatware of OS X, that G3 may not be adequate for long. In my experience, the difference in speed between 9 and X is much, much more dramatic than the difference in speed between 98 and XP.
When you have an OS that is fundamentally based on a windowing interface paradigm, that interface should be as efficient as possible.
