The G3 IS faster than a P4 in the sense that it is much more efficient. But, that's only if you compare relatively simlar clock cycles. The x86 chips though have so far outstripped the PowerPC in just raw horsepower that efficiency doesn't matter anymore.
In this case, more IS more.
