Large quantities of aspartame (Nutrasweet) can affect your vision. In fact,
sufficient quantities of it in one shot can cause temporary blindness -- but
the quantity required is equivalent to eating an entire economy sized box of
Equal.

However, various sugar substitues do have side-effects on some people.
While aspartame doesn't bother me, Splenda makes me sick to my stomach.
Sodium Sacchrine makes a friend of mine feel 'all wierd in [her] head'.

Besides that, most fat substitues grease my gizzards like a slip'n'slide, so
I don't eat those.

So try things out, and if you don't like them, avoid them. There are
options.
