A Man called Horse took its suspension from a man in San Francisco who calls
himself Fakir Musafar. I've seen him talk and watched a video of him
leading a ball dance (small needles through the flesh which are then
attached to lightweight balls). The dancing with the balls pulling is
supposed to generate the same kind of rush that Critter went through)

That reminds me of the Plains Indians sun dance rituals, - black foot and
sioux spring to mind. In the ritual a dancer would be suspended by hooks
through the pectoral muscles - in front rather than in back. I know one
person who did go through the ritual, and reported something similar to
Critz.

Did anyone see the movie "A Man Called Horse" starring Richard Harris? It
showed something similar.
