the eMac is a nice machine, unfortunately not very expandable, but for most 
uses, that's OK.

Its FreeBSD Unix with a pretty shell. If you don't want to dive into *nix 
programming, you may want to look into AppleScript. Its a fairly easy  to 
learn and can do some very interesting things with it. For more resources, 
look at the site Apple maintains for developers: http://developer.apple.com/
