What I meant was that in this instance, what the customer needed was someone who had spent considerable time in each of these systems before the work started.
There was no time to take general software engineering principles and apply them to language and platform specific requirements.
This is where experience dovetails with education.

Many computer programming conncepts can be applied to SQL Server,
ColdFusion, FoxPro, Perl, Java, and Pervasive SQL. (I'll refrain from
commenting on Progress since I know nothing about it).
