In a such a situation as you describe, all else would not be equal. The
person with proven programming experience and a genetics background would
have the edge over the one w/o.
In response to your "It doesn't take four years" argument, I would have
to agree with you. But, most of the four years in college is not on
curriculum-specific courses. All of the "general" courses are in
there. I'd love to see colleges offer specific programs without the fluff,
but I'm not going to hold my breath.
