I heard about this yesterday... it's a pretty sticky situation.  I have to
agree that it's a moral nightmare of personal wishes vs. family wishes.
However, consider also the fact that she was in her mid 20's when she was
put into this state.  Now tell me, who among us in that age range has set up
a living (or otherwise) will?

On the side of the Husband is the statement that she never wanted to live
this way (on life support).  Combined with the medical statements that the
reactions and interaction witnessed by all are reactive and do not show
signs of any cognitive thought process.

On the side of the family is the lack of a legal document and the
willingness to care for her on a continual and daily basis.  Apparently the
option of her feeding herself again does not exist (not sure why).

I have to agree with John on the political standing of this... IMO it's not
up to the legislature to decide.  That's like saying it's up to the board of
directors how a shareholder spends their dividends.

Regards,
Hatton

They removed her feeding tube, planning on starving her to death.

She was denied therapy to make the minimal steps required for her to eat
  normally.

....the most assinine thing ever. Why the f$%^ is the state legislature
getting involved? The woman told her husband she didnt want to live like
this. Man this pisses me off. It's nice to know that if my wife and I
discuss how we do or do not want to live when comatic or a vegetable,
  that
our wishes mean nothing. God damn why cant people just let those who are
deciding about their OWN lives decide? I
