Because if you think you know what's best for you, you're sadly
misinformed, John.

The state lege is getting involved because it's a winner issue for
people "concerned about the sanctity of life", and it's been highly
publicized by this poor woman's family.  The story is (as I understand
it) that this woman has been in a vegetative state for something like 13
years, and her husband is apparently carrying out her wishes to not be
kept alive in this manner.  Her family thinks otherwise, and says that
her husband is not trustworthy, since he landed a large malpractice
settlement and "doesn't want to share the money", never mind that he's
with another woman and apparently wants to marry her and - I assume -
share the money with her.

I guess the husband has stayed married to this woman so he can carry out
her desire to be taken off life support, since I assume the family would
leave her on a tube for decades, but I don't know why it's taken 13
years.  Regardless, I think the behavior of this woman's family and the
Governer and the legislature has been pretty underhanded.  In the grand
scheme of things, though, I could care less.
