What are you talking about? If you're referring to Dunkirk, there
were not Canadians involved. It was an all British affair. The
Canadians actually invaded Brittany at the time and was told to
return after Dunkirk.
If you're referring to Dieppe, then that was very different. There is
ample evidence that the large scale raid was compromised early on and
so the Germans were ready for the raid. Despite that, the Canadians
were able to penetrate well into Dieppe, again despite being at at 4
to 1 disadvantage.

As for who won the War of 1812. The point is moot. The US invaded
Canada and got its collective butt kicked back out. At the end of the
conflict, more US territory was controlled by British/Canadian forces
than American controlled British territory in North America. Given
the US goal of conquering the remaining British territory in North
America, and failing, to me that's a win.
The only real significant defeats of British/Canadian forces occurred
when they invaded US territory.
