Thanks everyone for valuable pointers and validating my sentiments. It was introduced to me today - the date of the promotion. I convinced them to leave the image "java-less". The email will have a plain image. The link to the top left that lets them see the promotion in a browser will point to the same as I included before.

I sent the message to my hotmail and yahoo account. Hotmail sent it to the junk mail folder where all images were turned off. When I sent it to the inbox, the applet was missing. In yahoo as well the applet was missing. That finally convinced marketing.

I will be experimenting with multipart emails as soon as we upgrade to CF MX.

Thanks again,

Dharmesh

Subject: Re: Email promotion question

I don't have a problem with html email per se.

However, I have images turned off in mine, so any information that is
there in graphic form is lost.  Also, I'm willing to bet that if any
email clients support embedded java applets, it's going to be on a
client-by-client basis, rather than part of a standard.  But that's just
my best guess.

As far as the rest goes....

If I can't read the email, I'm not going to click on a link.

Also, I don't like java applets on pages unless they do something
important.  Snow is not, from my perspective, important.

That's my (rather harsh) $0.02
