Phill-

One thing that is a MUST for me to lose weight is increasing exercise level.

If I don't do something aerobic, my metabolism seems to be sluggish and I can't lose weight.

If I exercise, I will have gradual weight loss eating "sensibly".

What kind of exercise? Walking at a brisk pace (hard for me until I get the hip fixed), stationary exercise bike, real bike, etc. - anything that gets your heart rate up a bit for 30 minutes at a time preferably.

The recommended exercise level is where you can talk a couple of sentences at a time, but are not panting for breath.

re: diet, the heart rehab folks said monounsaturated fats/oils (canola, olive, peanut, avocado) are healthier, whole grains, more fish, more veggies, less red meat. Not just for weight loss, for health in general.

HTH and good luck.

P.S. I'm down 35 pounds so far, from about 285# to 250#, as part of a cardiac rehab program and trying to get fitter before my hip replacement.
