subject to the same revisionism that all text's written from people's memories
are. The problem begins when people take any religious text as being "fact"
as opposed to an individual's interpretation. Even of "God's word," it is
still man's/woman's interpretation of what he thought God was saying to
him/her. It seems to be a trade off of belief. All of the religions seem to
"suffer" from this. To question is to not believe.

Actually, the pope did NOT say that. Read up and you'll see that the vadican
denied such a statement. Add to this the fact that Gibson is NOT Catholic
and you see a rumor/marketing ploy rather than truth.
As for scholars, there are just as many who say the exact opposite.
