You must use the 9.2+ version drivers or YOU WILL have problems!!!! I would recommend installing the 9x client it if you haven't already. Or, you can just leave your machine the way it is and just use the Oracle JDBC thin client drivers (downloadable from oracle's web site). The thin drivers do not require the oracle client, therefore the client does not need to be updated to 9. If you want to try this, follow the instructions below. Remember that you MUST use the version 9.2.0.1 or above drivers or you will run into the problems that you have been useing. We have been using these drivers and only had to change one query. (Our application is quite large, so that was amazing to us.) INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING ORACLE JDBC THIN DRIVERS: a. Download Version 9.2.0.1 Oracle JDBC Thin Client Drivers from http://otn.oracle.com/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc9201.html. You only need to download classes12.zip and nls_charset12.zip files.
b. Configure JVM Settings: Open CFMX Administrator http://127.0.0.1/cfide/administrator/index.cfm Click on Server Settings->Java and JVM Add c:\jdbc_thin_drivers to the Class Path Click on Submit Changes NOTE: (the folder jdbc_thin_drivers is just one we made up. They can be placed anywhere.) c. Copy the classes12.zip and nls_charset12.zip files into the c:\jdbc_thin_drivers folder. d. Stop and restart all CFMX Server Services Driver Configuration Settings when creating datasources: Note: The settings are case sensitive. The Driver Name setting is optional. Driver: Other JDBC URL: jdbc:oracle:thin:@<server name>:<port>:<SID> Driver Class: oracle.jdbc.OracleDrive Good luck! suzanne Orison Almeida <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Suzanne First of all, thanks for you helping. Sorry I have informed wrong my CF Version... It's acctually the Professional Edition. To use "Oracle ODBC driver" instead of "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle" I installed full Oracle 8.1.7 client on my appl Server (even though my DB server is a 8.1.5 oracle). I have dowlnoaded from Oracle OTN the 9.1.0.2 classes.zip (jdk 1.1 & 1.2) files and put on \oracle\ora81\jdbc\lib No improvement. I'm still using "Oracle ODBC driver" configured on ODBC stamped 8.01.07.00. I'm thinking about download full 9.1.0.2 client (~600MB) and install full client. I thought about migrate to direct oracle connection but it's a huge sistem lots of CFM files that have been on developing for more than 4 years... It would be crazy to change all "odbcdatetime" and other odbc functions present on application. The client mattered in our situation because we are using CFMX Pro and the Pro edition does not come with Oracle drivers so we had to download and use the Oracle JDBC thin client drivers from Oracle. It could be that the Oracle driver is now JDBC to ODBC bridged. I would also search or list this problem on the macromedia forums for coldfusion. Orison Almeida wrote:Thanks ppl I'm using MXEnterprise on WIN2K sever (app sever) conecting using a 8.1.7 client to another WIN2K sever with oracle 8.1.5. I applied CFMX updater 2 but this problem (that I had before it) continues. I'm using Oracle ODBC Driver (this is not the "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle"). As advised, I'll try other clients. thanks Orison. re2======== Looks like you are using an ODBC Driver, yes CFMX will fail with ODBC Connections under load. What Oracle version? You can get the Type IV driver from otn.oracle.com, use that. Joe Eugene re1======== Suzanne Capener [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Are you running CFMX Enterprise or Pro? We are running CFMX pro on Win2K and WinXP against an Oracle 8.1.5 & .7 databases and have not had any trouble with connections. We use the Oracle jdbc thin driver. The trick to using the Oracle thin driver is to use the 9.2.0.1 version. (Even though we are running an Oracle 8.x database, the 9.2.0.1 driver is backward compatible and is the only one that works.) No ideas on why the your system would be loosing the database coonection. Have you applied the CFMX updater 2?
