Well, apparently it's not as difficult as you make it out to be. Take your own case. You complained about ODBC not working for you, a bunch of people recommended you use the pure JDBC drivers instead (based on Macromedia's own recommendations about pure JDBC being preferable to JDBC-ODBC bridges, and based on general knowledge and common sense), and you said that worked.
