I just got some additional information on the process Contribute uses to verify activation, and how it is different from Intuit's implementation. When Turbo Tax was installed, a license manager was installed at the same time that would not only run all the time, but also could not be un-installed along with Turbo Tax. It was that process which apparently was able to interfere with other operations. Contribute, on the other hand, starts a single light weight process at the time that the application starts up which only stays alive long enough to check to see if the license is valid (which does not require an Internet connection or communication with Macromedia servers). If the license is verified, Contribute starts up, and the initial process dies. Additionally, when Contribute is un-installed, the licensing manager software is un-installed along with it. I obviously can't promise that there are no issues with the activation software that comes with Contribute, but I can say this: 1. We don't know of any, and if we suspected there were any issues, we wouldn't have done it. 2. It is implemented in a way very different than the way is was implemented for Turbo Tax in order to ensure that the process is as safe as possible. 3. If anyone finds any issues, we will fix them immediately. 4. There are currently no plans to apply this type of license verification to ColdFusion or any other server product.
