2. The method of claim 1, wherein said executable application is a      
controllable application and further comprising the step of:

interactively controlling said controllable application on said client  
     workstation via inter-process communications between said browser 
and said      controllable application.

The above describes a plug-in. Specifically, the browser interactively 
controls another an application through IPC. Thus, if the technology 
behind Windows Media Player was integrated directly into IE then a 
streaming video played through IE could be handled by IE without 
controlling another application through IPC. If there is no control 
through IPC of a stand-alone application than this patent doesn't apply.
