Eolas is hired by the University of California to make the most 
money out of the IP owned by the UC. The obvious way to extract 
the most money from Microsoft is by proving you can force them to 
stop shiping certain products, and then showing them a way out.

In the light of that, it is also obvious why Microsoft is leaking 
stories that it is quite easy to circumvent the patent. It is 
trying to give the impression that if worst comes to worst, 
Microsoft can afford to stop shipping certain products.
