I can see where you are coming from, believe me; but I do not think that
hosting providers need to provide the same level of security for each
customer. Going back to your car analogy above, think about it this way...
When I bought my Mazda 6 I could have gotten the base model which at the
very least meets the minimum safety requirements or I could have gotten to
S3 package (or whatever they called it) which game me more airbags, roadside
assistance during the warranty period, larger wheels/tires, better brakes
(performance), and stiffer suspension. I opted for the S3 package because I
live in the DC area and people can't drive, only me :-) so the added
features were welcomed. Should everyone have the S3 package? Does my grandma
who drives once a week need the S3 package? Should she pay for it if she
doesn't "need" it or put herself into situations where it is needed? Of
course she shouldn't. Just like not all web applications need a the same
level of security thus paying for more is only reasonable. The tough thing
in my opinion is that while my analogy talks about cars having minimum
safety requirements, web applications do not... at least not any that can be
enforced.
