I second the suggestion to go to office update and make sure you've updated
the spam filters. It really does help immensely.

It's not perfect tho (what is?). Right now it's catching (with no training
on my part) about 90% of spam on the "low" setting. I could move it to
"High" and catch more but then some real email gets caught and it's easier
to delete to uncaught spam than to go through all the caught spam looking
for good messages (on low I've never seen a real message get caught).

I've also used "IHateSpam" (at www.sunbeltsoftware.com) and it was also very
good - it's something like $20 (although you only get a year of updates -
then you pay $10 to upgrade).

Panda is cheap and seems to work well (there's also a free online scanner
from Panda).

I'm not sure what you consider "cheap" but personally I just McAfee Internet
Security (I was using Norton but hated the fact that you couldn't NOT use
their spam filter). It's $70 as a download and includes Firewall, Spam
protection, Anti-virus and Privacy services.

For the most part it's worked well for me (which is to say that it's crashed
less than others - in my experience protection software almost always causes
more problems than it solves.)
