If that's your idea of a joke, you'd better keep your day job, Rob.

I find it a bit irksome that people think it's a realistic or useful answer
to someone asking "how do I make X work the way I want it to" to say "oh,
just get a Y". Especially when it's pretty easy to avoid viruses or worms on
any platform with a minimal amount of care and foresight.

I've been using Windows on personal computers since version 3.1 and I've
never had any sort of local security problem. As a consultant, I plug my
computer into all sorts of networks, I use public wifi hotspots, etc. I use
Outlook to connect to an Exchange server, and I've never had a virus. I
don't have any antivirus software installed, either. What's my secret? I run
a local firewall (nowadays, the one that comes with XP SP2), I don't
double-click on attachments, and I use Firefox for public browsing. How hard
are any of those things? This isn't rocket science.

Now, I like Macs and I think that OS X makes a superb desktop, but it's kind
of hard to justify buying a new computer to fix a problem that can easily be
fixed without laying down that kind of money. As for using a Linux desktop
for my primary computer, I'd rather self-administer a lobotomy. That's just
me, though.
