The thing that bothers me the most about CFUnited is how cocky Teratech
is when it comes to the sessions. Borland's conference this year had a
user driven schedule. Anybody could submit a session they'd like to
teach, and Borland setup up a site for people to vote on the sessions.
The top x sessions were put into the schedule.
Teratech does something similar with CFUnited, except that they have the
final say on what happens. Which allows them to make Microsoft a
platinum sponsor, and give them one of the biggest ball rooms to teach a
3 hour class on freaking ASP.Net! That is exactly what happened last
year ("Building a complete web application in ASP.Net", 8-11 Friday
morning). I still shake my head in wonder that Teratech had the gall to
run that ASP class at a ColdFusion conference. It was a class that you
had to pre-register, and I looked at the registration numbers shortly
before CFUnited, and only about 20 people had signed up! What a waste
of time... "CFUNITED is the only conference of its kind that is run by
developers, for developers. (cfunited.com)" Yeah, right.
I emailed Teratech and suggested they do something like Borland's
conference for 2007, and we'll see what happens. But I doubt it'll
happen.
