Well, I'll just weigh in as someone else having problems with Vista then...

It's slow. UAC is a royal pain in the ass. I've applied pretty much
every tweak listed on various websites to speed it up and, yes, it is
now faster than it was but it's still slower than XP running on the
same system. Unbuntu on the same system absolutely flies, however...

I'm with Will and Dave (and Jenny and many, many others out their)
that Vista is a very problematic piece of software. I've spoken to
just a handful of people who seem to like Vista and seem to have few
problems running it. The vast majority of people I've spoken to who've
tried Vista all hate it. A non-techie friend of my wife took her new
laptop back to the store for a replacement because she hated Vista so
much and wanted XP reinstalled.

Microsoft have screwed up pretty badly on this, IMO.
