This was brought up at CFUnited during the Q & A with Adobe. Who knows if it will happen but it's not a bad idea at all.

We regularly look for contractors. I don't think I've seen one of the resumes that had the certification. We get the resume's, see the CF experience, contact the former employer (usually a non technical person) and do the best we can. Most of the time we get a phone interview with the person and have to make a decision. Out of the last five or so that we hired, ONE really knows ColdFusion. A couple had coded in it before, but asked us to change to a different programming language (not going to happen!) after they got here because they knew that language better. One persons experience with CF was entirely through the design mode of dreamweaver. This person couldn't even understand the CF code when it was given back for revisions. Then there was the one. Great resume, "extensive experience" with SQL, CF, and other things; great responses from previous employers. Had to fire him after a week. He didn't even know do a simple table join. (we now ask basic technical questions during the interview) If there were tests that covered things like CF Basic (can use cf, some sql, understands certain concepts); CF Intermediate (Knows Structures, Arrays, lesser know tags); CF Advanced (Ben Forta!!!) You get the idea. Charge different prices for the testing based off of which exam you are sitting for. Here is another idea that could be done, especially with this group.... Peer exams. The people on this list could come up with an entry level exam that we could say "House of Fusion Basic Knowledge". This wouldn't be for a money maker, though a small amount could be charged for admin purposes. What it would be for is generating a base of programmers that know a minimum amount of knowledge. This could increase the view of CF to the general web programming community. Maybe it could even start a trend where people stop declaring that CF is dying! I'd be willing to put some time towards it. CF-Talk could come up with questions for the tests! Hey if we wanted to do advanced tests, we could even use some of the really hard e-mails that come to the list! Just an opinion and an idea or two!
